HOUSTON - April 26, 2006 --- The American Petroleum Institute (API) yesterday recognized CITGO Pipeline Company, which includes CITGO Products Pipeline Company and West Shore Pipeline Company, by awarding its Occupational Safety Award. API also presented the company with certificates for no away from work days and improved safety performance. The presentation was made at the API Pipeline Conference in Fort Worth. “The receipt of these awards recognizes the everyday commitment by CITGO and its employees towards safe operations,” said Kent Powers, CITGO general manager of terminal facilities and pipeline. “We not only encourage our employees to perform in a safe manner, we expect it.” API’s Occupational Safety Award is given for the lowest Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Recordable Incident Rate. Additionally, the recipient must have had no employee, contractor or public fatality; no hospitalization of the public; no OSHA Reportable Hospitalization; and no OSHA Willful Violation. CITGO Pipeline’s incident rate for 2005 was 0.00. The API No Away From Work Days certificate includes fatalities, days away from work and cases resulting in a job transfer or restriction. The Improved Safety Performance certificate was awarded for a 25 percent reduction in the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate for a three-year rolling average. The CITGO Pipeline average was 0. The award of these certificates was based on company-wide performance, not individual pipeline segments within a company. CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals, refined waxes, asphalt and other industrial products.
